Greetings my lovely, feral, dark, and bright ones,

Let’s be entirely real: there is a specific level of emotional exhaustion where you either choose violence, or you choose a bottle of high-potency cleaner and a total house purge. This week, I chose both. Well, the digital version of violence, anyway.

Despite the heavy lifting, it has actually been a pretty good week—a necessary turning point where things are finally aligning. Between the daily marathon of technical customer support calls at my day job, the constant, heavy undercurrent of missing my mom, and a personal text thread that turned into a masterclass in guilt-tripping script, my emotional battery at one point wasn’t just dead—it was melted. For a long time, I tried to give grace to a dynamic where I was the designated emotional sounding board, walking on eggshells just to keep the peace. But when someone smiles to your face and then lashes out the second you ask for a basic boundary? The clarity cuts through the fog like a lightning bolt.

Let’s call it exactly what it is. I had a front-row seat to a masterclass in toxicity where people actually tried to use my mom’s passing as a weapon against me, trying to script how I should mourn and twisting my grief to fit their own narrative. They spent their energy playing the victim and the martyr for everyone to see, desperately hunting for the attention they crave from others. I am completely certain that the main instigator is out there laying it on thick to anyone who will listen right now, just like I said they would. Honestly, their predictable behavior did nothing but completely prove my point.

And then there’s the sheer, predictable comedy of the mimics—the people who see you carving out a beautiful, authentic life and immediately try to copy your footsteps, or worse, try to gatekeep pieces of the earth. Let’s make one thing crystal clear: daisies belong to the earth, not to someone’s fragile ego, and no one gets to claim a flower as their personal brand or pretend my joy is somehow about them, any more than past critics tried to gatekeep sunflowers.

I didn’t scream, and I didn’t match the chaos. I just calmly stated the truth, hit that beautiful “Block” button, and let the pity party slide right into the ether. The notification noise is gone, the door is locked, and the silence feels like a literal promotion.

The second that mental boundary was locked down, I channeled all that fiery, left-over adrenaline into a physical exorcism of this house. Today is officially day two of my five-day oasis from work, and instead of easing into it, I’ve kept the momentum moving completely forward.

Yesterday was entirely dedicated to the heavy physical house cleaning. I officially declared war on the ferret room. If you know anything about ferrets, you know they are stubborn little perfectionists who will snub four perfectly clean litter boxes just to make a point on your flooring. I ditched the old bleach routine—because animal biology means bleach just tells their low-riding noses “hey, go poop here again!”—and went to town with a massive jug of multi-purpose enzymatic cleaner. I scrubbed the habitat, threw out the old rules, ordered high-backed corner-blockers, and washed every single linen in the room. Then I cleared the backyard, cleaned the cat pan, and attacked the kitchen down until even the forgotten dust on top of the refrigerator was banished.

But I didn’t stop there. Once the rooms were squared away, I turned that aggressive energy toward my own bedroom, completely cleaning out my closet and my dresser. I am ruthlessly getting rid of every single piece of clothing that doesn’t fit me anymore. If it doesn’t fit my body, my comfort, or the woman I am today, it has absolutely no business taking up space in my sanctuary. It felt incredibly empowering to physically purge the old armor I’ve outgrown, making room for a wardrobe—and a life—that actually feels like me.

My sheets and towels were snapping on the clothesline in the 104-degree Tucson sun, practically baking the stress right out of the fabric. Today, it’s the bathmats spinning through the line because they desperately needed cleaning, too. I’ve officially retreated inside to the sweet, crisp air conditioning of my office because that heavy, humid desert heat out there is no joke. I’m content to hide out inside for the afternoon, letting the ideas swirl in my head for the house, myself, and what I want to build.

The decks are clear, the boundaries are iron-clad, the sunshine is streaming through the windows, and the sanctuary is officially mine again. I am steering my boat out of the rough, chaotic waves and into a calm, organized harbor.

This physical deep-clean was just phase one of a much larger shift happening under this roof. Stay tuned for Part 2, where I’ll be sharing the deep spiritual evolution that came out of this reset, how I’m completely reorganizing my altar, and what it truly means to step out of the shadows as a Sunlit Hearth Witch.

The light is back on, the hearth is warm, and the summer belongs to me.
