Everything I Said After Muting My Microphone

By Every Technical Support Representative Ever

☕ Before the First Call

Me: “Good morning! Thank you for calling support!”

Internal: Maybe today people will actually read what’s on their screen before clicking random buttons.

…Optimism has entered the chat.

🖱️ The Mouse

Me: “Move your mouse to the blue button.”

Cursor begins making crop circles.

Internal: No… not in circles. Straight line. We’re moving a mouse, not flying a helicopter.

👆 Click Once

Me: “Click it once.”

Double-click.

Triple-click.

Machine-gun clicking commences.

Internal: One click. Uno. Single. Solo. We are not trying to break the world record.

📖 Reading the Error

Me: “Could you read the error message?”

Client: “I closed it.”

Internal: Wonderful. Let’s solve the mystery of the message that no longer exists.

🤷 Nothing Happened

Me: “What happened?”

Client: “Nothing.”

Internal: Interesting. Then why am I on the phone?

💻 Your Software Is Broken

Client: “Your software doesn’t work.”

Internal: Let’s rule out user behavior before we declare the software sentient.

🧠 The Expert

Me: “The software is designed to work this way.”

Client: “No, that’s not right.”

Internal: I’ve only supported it every day for years… but please continue.

🎪 Click Happy

Me: “Don’t click anything while it loads.”

Click.

Click.

Click.

Internal: Perfect. Let’s create four problems while waiting for the first one to finish.

🌐 Browser Meeting

Internal: You joined from the browser again, didn’t you?

This is why we can’t have nice things.

🎥 Screen Share

Me: “Move your mouse to the top right.”

Cursor travels left…

Then down…

Then across three monitors…

Internal: Are we driving a mouse or docking the Titanic?

🎯 The Giant Blue Button

Me: “Click the giant blue button.”

Client: “Which one?”

Internal: The one NASA can see from orbit.

📂 File vs Edit

Me: “Click File.”

Client: Clicks Edit.

Internal: Bold strategy, Cotton.

🚨 The Red X

Cursor slowly approaches the giant red X.

Internal: Don’t do it…

Click.

Internal: Well… we’re making memories today.

🎭 I’ve Tried Everything

Client: “I’ve already tried everything.”

Internal: Everything except what I asked you to do.

📞 Insurance Experience

Client: “I’ve been doing insurance for 35 years.”

Internal: Fantastic. I’ve been supporting this software for years. We both have experience—just in different things.

😐 You Don’t Know

Me: “That’s how the software works.”

Client: “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Internal: Interesting theory.

🖥️ Remote Control

Internal: JUST LET ME HAVE CONTROL OF YOUR DAMN SCREEN!

I could’ve fixed this before you finished introducing yourself.

📞 Last Question

Me: “Is there anything else I can help you with?”

Internal: Please say no…

Client: “Actually…”

Internal: I knew it.

🎬 The Mute Button

Mic On:
“Absolutely! I’d be happy to help.”

Mic Off:
“FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, STOP CLICKING THE BUTTON I’M TELLING YOU NOT TO CLICK!”

Mic On:
“Thank you for your patience.”

💡 Universal Truth

People who say,

“I’m not very good with computers.”

…are usually the easiest people to help.

People who say,

“I know computers.”

…usually don’t.

🏆 End of the Day

Status: Available.

Actual Status: Emotionally unavailable.

The Tech Support Prayer

May your clients read the error message before closing it.

May your remote session connect on the first attempt.

May your cursor travel in a straight line.

May no one argue with you about software they’ve never supported.

May the mute button always work.

And may everyone remember…

The problem is rarely the software.

The problem is usually somewhere between the keyboard and the chair.

(Don’t say that part out loud.)

P.S. If you work in tech support, IT, customer service, healthcare, retail, or any profession where you’ve mastered the art of smiling while silently questioning reality… this one’s for you. Feel free to share your own “mute button moments” in the comments. I have a feeling we’ve only scratched the surface. 😄

I believe the best magic happens in the middle ground. Join the conversation below!"
